My SŌZŌ Story

What I love most about SOZO is the vibrant, welcoming sense of community. The owner, Kara, radiates caring and positive energy. The teachers are so encouraging and their passion for the yoga comes through in every class. My fellow students are supportive and kind. Honestly, I feel love every time I walk through the door.

Yoga has changed my life in so many ways. Perhaps the biggest gift has been the opportunity to learn to be fully present in the moment. When I first started my practice over 20 years ago, I could not quiet my mind at any time--neither on nor off the mat. But with consistent practice I've found so much peace within by learning to connect my mind, body and breath. My favorite is Bikram-style 26/2 yoga. The surety of repeating the same 26 poses in every class allows for a deep, moving meditation and the ability to set aside all other mental tasks for part of my day. I always feel more grounded, more calm and connected, afterwards.

Physically, yoga has made me stronger in many ways, as well as kept me limber. And my balance has improved by leaps and bounds. At 64, this is becoming more and more important to me. I recently read an article citing a 2024 Mayo Clinic study that found the strongest indicator of how a person is aging--more than strength or gait--is the ability to stand on one leg. Thank you, 26/2 yoga!

If you are curious about yoga or considering trying it, I'd say come on in. Show up for yourself and do the work--whatever that means for you. Don't worry about lack of experience or whether it will be hard. Nobody cares what anyone else's yoga looks like; we are all there on our own journey of growth and will cheer you on. The gifts of yoga are many and they begin the minute you start. Namaste!
